Why Are We Happy Today?
Maybe because we see a chink in the armor?
The Supreme Court today delivered a sweeping rebuke to the Bush administration, ruling that it exceeded its authority by creating tribunals for terror suspects that fell short of the legal protections that Congress has traditionally required in military courts.
As a result, the court said in a 5-to-3 ruling, the tribunals violated both American military law and the military’s obligations under the Geneva Conventions. {Source}
I don’t know why people are celebrating this ruling . We have already signed the Geneva Convention which states how we must treat all prisoners-of-war and civilians during war. Read my article on this subject here. Remember that Treaties are the highest law of the land, under our Constitution. Ah, but as Mr. Bush has whined before, “This is an old law”. So is the Ten Commandments.
These “Enemy Combatants” are either Military prisoners-of-war or they are civilians. There is no other category. If they are civilians, then they may not be held, except by civilian authorities under the civilian laws, with all the rights we have under our Constitution. Or they are military personal, who have been captured and are therefore prisoner-of-war and must be held under the laws of the Geneva Convention.
Why the need to go to the highest court in America to figure out what to do with them? Only that Mr. Bush wanted to have the color-of-law, to cover his ass. Mr. Bush and his whole Cabal believe that he is King of Kings. They have acted in a way that shows that they believe that he can do or not do anything he wishes. His “Signing Statements” prove this. He believed that since he and the previous Republican Presidents have packed the court with men who want to take us back to the dark ages, that the Supreme Court would give him his crown.
Maybe, the Supreme Court has noticed how Mr. Bush has undermined and really taken away the other branch of government, (Congress) and decided that they really wanted to keep their jobs. I doubt that their reason was their sworn oath to the Constitution.
Of course, the Supreme’s which Mr. Bush put on the court stood with him. If you pray, pray daily for the health and safety of those seven who stood up to Mr. Bush and his Cabal. They are our only hope for this nightmare to end.
Be happy today for this small victory, but keep on working to change this country and this world in November
