From the Top Down
FBI statistics Monday confirmed what big cities like Philadelphia, Houston, Cleveland and Las Vegas have seen on the streets: Violent crime in the U.S. is on the rise, posting its biggest one-year increase since 1991.
In Philadelphia, homicides jumped from 330 in 2004 to 377 in 2005, a 14 percent increase, according to the FBI. Murders climbed from 272 to 334 in Houston, a 23 percent rise, and from 131 to 144 in Las Vegas, a 10 percent increase.
When people see the “big boys” get away with murder, the message is that there is no law and order. Why should we obey the laws? When Mr. Bush signs 750 “Signing Statements” which states that he and his Administration do not have to obey even the Constitution, let alone Acts of Congress or any old pesky laws, the message is clear that this is a lawless country.
Parents can not tell their children to do as I say, not as I do and expect to get good results from their childrearing. The people in charge, whether in the family or in Government, must be the example. They must be above reproach.
Wasn’t Mr. Bush the one who said that he would finally bring not only dignity, truth and obeying all the laws back to Washington, (after President Clinton’s sexual acts had so destroyed all of America), but they would make sure that the appearance of doing right was a blazing light to the world? What happened? I have never seen a more dark and destructive Government. Today we are informed that Mr. Rove will not be facing any charges. Just a few days ago, we are informed that the Telecommunication companies will not have to testify before Congress about their helping the Government to spy on American Citizens. A clear breaking of the Telecommunication Laws. But, Mr. Cheney did something to make this go away.
Mr. Bush whined about those people who were demanding that he obey the FISA law, the one which was especially written for the President, (even one acting as one). Even Mr. Bush must obtain a warrant to spy on American Citizens, crying that “It’s an old law” and that he should not have to be concerned with old laws, is just plain stupid. Most of our laws are older that 30 years old. 1970’s is way too far in the distance for Mr. Bush to obey the laws from that era. No wonder he has no problem destroying the old law which is the basis for our country and all of our laws: The Constitution.
My, oh my, that was way back in 1790’s. (Maybe Mr. Bush’s dyslexia was really causing problems that day. 1970 or 1790…..same numbers.
Some criminal justice experts said the statistics reflect the nation’s complacency in fighting crime. Crime dropped dramatically during 1990’s, and some cities have since abandoned effective programs that emphasized prevention, the putting of more cops on the street, and controls on the spread of guns.
“We see that budgets for policing are being slashed and the federal government has gotten out of that business,” said James Alan Fox, a criminal justice professor at Northeastern University in Boston. Still, Fox said, “We’re still far better off than we were during the double-digit crime inflation we saw in the 1970’s.”
Hmmm. 1970’s? What Party was in control then? What was the President of the United States doing then? Republican President Nixon was acting like a King, was breaking every law and spying on American Citizens. Cause and effect?
Because of President Nixon’s disregarding and breaking of the laws, the Congress passed all those laws putting bars around the President. Putting him in a legal cage, to protect American’s and America from a President who would be king.
It worked, until now. During the 1990’s are crime rate was the lowest. Even though you had President Clinton cheating sexually on his wife. As most American’s knew, cheating on your wife (or husband) may be a moral crime, but it is not a crime against America or the Constitution. It had nothing to do with the Presidency. Most Presidents have cheated on their wives, while in office. Even G. W. H. Bush had a mistress. She worked for the Government and was paid $90,000.00 a year by the taxpayers. At least, President Clinton had the decency to have sex with an intern, who did not get paid by us.
No wonder our economy did so well under President Clinton. Compared to the Bushes, he knew how to not waste taxpayers money.
We see a few of the “big boys” go down and we have hope. But this is just throwing a few pieces of meat at the hungry bears. A way to keep the questions and people down for a few more months.
Mr. Bush and his Cabal are like that movie in which the sharks are circling and bumping the life boat, and every once in awhile someone is thrown over the side to keep the sharks busy and feed. Until the next time. You know, if won’t be Mr. Rove, Mr. Cheney or Mr. Bush as long as the Republicans are in control of all branches of Government.
If you like living in this type of America, sit on your doffs and do nothing! As long as these criminals are sitting in the power seats, the criminals on the streets will be more emboldened.
