Feed The Hungry!
For the Cost of One Missile how many people could we feed in Darfur? While you sit down to several big meals today, think about that.
The UN is cutting in half its daily rations in Sudan’s Darfur region because of a severe funding shortfall. From May the ration will be half the minimum amount required each day. The cut comes as the UN said Darfur’s malnutrition rates are rising again. Nearly three million people depend on food aid after being driven off their land.
DARFUR DAILY FOOD RATIONS
Minimum requirement: 2,100 kilocalories per person
New amount: 1,050 kilocalories per person
Cut by half: Cereals, blended fortified food and oil
Cut by three-quarters: Pulses, sugar and salt. {Source}
Where are all those people in this Administration, from Mr. Bush on down, who claim to be Christians. Where are all the Christians in America? Wasn’t one of Jesus’ commandments to his followers, to feed the hungry? I don’t remember Jesus ever saying, “Go to war”. The amount of money we have wasted on the wars and on the military industrial complex, we could save not only the children, but the world.
We went to war in Afghanistan because the Taliban was bad. People there could not practice any other religion. So we went in and saved them. So that those who wanted to practice Christianity could. Well not actually. A man was just headed for a beheading, (no pun intended) and had to be given asylum in Italy, just because he was a Christian. We went to Iraq to save the people from torture and rapes. Well, we actually brought those things right along with our military.
All of this money spent to supposedly make us safe. At what cost? Mr. Bush and this Administration tell us that we do not have the manpower to intervene in Darfur. Well, if they had not taken us to war, we would have. The people of Darfur are far from safe. Four hundred thousand have been slaughtered. They are having to live in camps, because their villages are being raided. Death and rape and torture. And we do nothing. I thought the world said after World War II, Never Again! And yet, we have stood by and let this continue all over the world since then.
No more. Stop these unnecessary wars and save the people of the world from genocide.
If you are one of those who calls America a Christian nation, then start living up to the standard and the commands that Jesus demanded of you. Or stop calling yourself and this nation Christian. Jesus wept! And continues to weep as he sees exactly how little you believe in his words, life and death.
If God made this world, then he had dreams. He had dreams for the planet, the animals and the people. By our allowing this to go on and on, God must be having nightmares by now. I know I am.
Emergency operations to feed the victims of man-made or natural disasters. A World Food Program ration for one day for a family of four, can cost as little as US$1. In some counties, the cost is even lower; for instance, In Sudan, a food ration costs an average of 15 to 20 cents per person per day.
I challenge all of my readers, to do without one meal per day. Take that money and send it to the United Nations World Food Program. Not only will this help to save these people, but it will help the waistline of America. You will sleep better at night.
