Rush to Judgment
After three years, I was hoping that this was true. But when I turned on the television this morning, I find that another Republican blowhard has had a sweetheart deal given to him. Surprise, surprise!
This is a man who has spent his life telling others how to live. He has been especially hard core against drug abusers. He has stated that drug users are the scourge upon America. That all drug users should be put in prison for life. Throw away the key.
Turns out that he is only against those who use drugs which you can’t get from a Doctor. Street drugs. As long as you get a prescription, no matter if you get that prescription illegally, it’s okay with him.
He told his listeners that he became addicted because of back pain. As usual, those righteous Republicans forget that most people who use drugs are in pain also. Many have physical pain, but many have emotional pain. Pain is pain. Drugs are drugs. Illegal is illegal.
And we have laws against selling drugs, pushing drugs, using drugs, importing drugs. And the laws are good because we know what happens to people in societies and neighborhoods which become consumed by them. And so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought
to be accused and they ought to be convicted and
they ought to be sent up.
When you strip it all away, Jerry Garcia (former Grateful Dead guitarist) destroyed his life on drugs. And yet he’s being honored, like some godlike
figure. Our priorities are out of whack, folks.
Well ditto heads? I bet you still love this drug addicted, law-breaking drug freak. Ever hear of ‘just say no’ or how by buying drugs you are supporting Osama?Rush Limbaugh
A few years later, he has to change his tune. According to a woman named Wilma Cline, the nationally syndicated radio personality Rush Limbaugh would drive three miles from his $23 million Palm Beach, Fla., estate to a Denny’s parking lot so that she could hand over a cigar box concealing dozens of tiny prescription painkillers. The loquacious Limbaugh, his housekeeper says, was often high on “hillbilly heroin”.
OxyContin is one of 59 prescription pain-relievers using the active ingredient oxycodone, OxyContin is most commonly prescribed for cancer patients and others with chronic, debilitating pain. Oxycodone is not new. Neither is its potential for abuse. German researchers noted “striking euphoria” among users of the drug as early as the 1920’s, according to a DEA position paper.
You know I have always tried to be honest with you and open about my life.
I need to tell you today that part of what you have heard and read is correct. I am addicted to prescription pain medication.Rush Limbaugh
Conservative commentator in a statement on his nationally syndicated radio show.
Limbaugh is one of the most recognized talk show hosts in the nation and also one of the most controversial. In 2001, he signed a nine-year contract with Premiere Radio Networks, which syndicates his show to nearly 600 stations, for a total salary package reported to exceed $200 million. Once again, money not only talks, but it walks.
Rush Limbaugh, one of the most popular and influential radio talk show hosts in America, was arrested in West Palm Beach today. The charges involve allegations of prescription drug fraud,” anchor Elizabeth Vargas announced at the top of the ABC newscast. Brian Ross explained: “He turned himself in today, Elizabeth, about 4:00 this afternoon. He was held for an hour and has since been released on $3,000 bail. What this involves is whether he used phony prescriptions to get oxycontin and other highly addictive prescription painkillers.” Without anything about the deal, Vargas repeated the charge against him: “The allegations that he was doctor shopping, going to several doctors at once for big, big numbers of prescriptions.{Source}
Turns out that Mr. Limbaugh is not facing the just reward he screams all drug users should be given; prison and throw away the key. He has been given the key. And in eighteen months, if he continues his drug rehab, he will have a clean record. Again, I can only say, Republican, hypocrisy is your name.
Equal justice under the law? Open the gates on the prisons and let all those drug users out. Put them in drug rehab and give them a clean record also. Fair is fair!
