Shine A Light On

Have you been watching “Commander In Chief”? I have and I have enjoyed the show. But last night, I was getting more and more uncomfortable watching. It finally hit me what the problem was. It was too realistic. Not the story line of a women as President, but the wheeling, dealing, put party above everything, my ambition is more important that doing what is right.

I want to be President, so I will do everything to keep the sitting President from doing anything which might make her look good, even though I know it is the right thing to do, but which might keep me from becoming President.
Not that I think what the President wants done is not right, just that I must keep chipping away at her. So that I can become President. I will do anything, to anybody to become President. I will bribe Congressmen and Senators.
There is never, from any of the Congressmen or Senators, any mention of doing what is right for the country, or the American People. There is nothing done which would get you to the Presidency, or keep your seat in the Congress, on merit. It is all a vicious game. All about Power!

This is just not right! I expect people who are elected to be our Representatives, to work together for the greater good. To leave their Party out of consideration when they are deciding something, to represent every American. Of course, they have ambitions, but you can do honest work and reach your goals.

Our Representatives operate under the value system of “The end justifies the means”! It doesn’t. If it did, then why can’t I steal, murder or kidnap? Any of these would give me the means of living a much wealthier life. Moral codes tell me that I must obey the rules. That I must live all of my life, wherever I go in it, on my own hard work.
If I demand that rules, morals and laws are to obeyed by all of the citizens, then I must demand that the same rules, morals and laws are obeyed by our public servants.

I hope this show stays on. I hope that people watch it. I hope that we get so angry at what we are viewing on a Television series, showing us what our Public Servants do, that we force a change in real life!
Sometimes a Television show can shine a light on the wrongs of this world. Mash, All in the Family, Roots, to name a few. Is Commander in Chief the newest one? Who would have thunk?
