We Have Seen What “The Best Of My Ability” Is!
“I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
President George W. Bush
sworn into office, Jan. 20, 2001
I think it is time we change that oath. We must demand that the best of the best, the brightest of the brightest, the most honest of the honest, are the only ones we allow to take an oath of office. I recommend that the oath states :
”I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully, truthfully and without party politics, religious beliefs or corporate interests shaping my decisions in any way, will execute the office of President of the United States, and will preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. I have studied and know all of the United States Constitution and have passed a test with honors, proving same. I will faithfully follow the will of the people as long as it is Constitutional. I swear this to the American People, who’s will and vote have elected me to this office”.
The same oath, with the title changed, should be used for every office in America.
Mr. Bush has broken his oath, the one he swore to twice. He says it is his job to protect America and the American People. That is why he says he can break the laws. Even those laws which were passed to keep a President from spying on Americans. Remember his whining about “these are old laws”?. Most of our laws are old. Some dating back to the 1700’s. Most of our laws are based on the Magna Carta, from 1215. These laws were forced upon the crown, because of the “Abuses by King John caused a revolt by nobles who compelled him to execute this recognition of rights for both noblemen and ordinary Englishmen. It established the principle that no one, including the king or a lawmaker, is above the law”. Too bad Mr. Bush does not study history. It is time that we compel him to live up to his oath.
Keeping America safe is not what his Oath of Office was. He swore to PRESERVE, PROTECT AND DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES. That is his job. Keeping us safe within that frame work, is a good thing. But, it is not his main job.
He may not do anything which harms the Constitution of the United States. Or he has broken his oath and that my friends, is High Crimes! Impeachable offense of the highest order.
“We must remember the high standards that come with high office. This begins [with] careful adherence to the rules. I expect every member of this administration to stay well within the boundaries that define legal and ethical conduct.”
President George W. Bush
Jan. 22, 2001
His ability and his expectations seem to be not worth the words used. Like most words from his mouth, they are a waste of our time. Too bad that time is not the only thing which he has wasted.
He has wasted hundred of thousands of lives, unbelievable amounts of money, our standing in the world community, our trust, our world’s environment and our future.
It is time that “We the People” bring truth, honesty and the rule of law back to the White House. The bums who inhabit it now, never could, never would. Never will!
