It Depends On What The Meaning Of “Leak” Is!
On 4 June 2004: Mr. Bush hires a personal outside counsel for the Valerie Plame Investigation. Why would Mr. Bush do this, if what he now claims he did, was legal? The Serious Implications is that he needed one badly. Did he talked it over with Ms. Harriet Meyers, the White House Counsel and she told him he needed one? Could this be why he put her up for the Supreme Court. To cover his ass? Because if she was sitting on the court, she could never be called to testify against him.
In shocking news today, the New York Sun reports that Scooter Libby was authorized by none other than President Bush to leak critical Iraq intelligence to The New York Times. The latest dope in the Plame Affair, according to Libby’s grand jury testimony, was from a highly classified ” National Intelligence Estimate” and was given to a Times reporter in 2003…………but the revelation is important because it places the president “for the first time, directly in a chain of events that led to a meeting where prosecutors contend the identity of a CIA employee, Valerie Plame, was provided to a reporter.” {Source}
On Friday, McClellan said there’s a difference between providing declassified information when it’s in the public interest, and leaking classified information that could jeopardize national security. “Now, there are Democrats out there that fail to recognize that distinction or refuse to recognize that distinction,” said McClellan. “They are simply engaging in crass politics.”
What part of jeopardizing national security does this Administration not understand? They outed not only Valerie Plame, but anyone else who might have listed their employer as the Brewster Jennings & Associates..
For a time line on this whole scandal read this page which takes you from 1981, when Seyni Kountche, then President of Niger stated that his country would “sell uranium even to the devil.” thru 2005.
This was a business, set up by the CIA to give cover to it’s operatives. Those who went overseas or had contacts overseas doing our National Security business. They had many employees, who had many contacts with foreign nationals. Many of these people were putting their lives on the line giving us information vital to not only our interests, but the worlds interest in the area of WMD’s. And Mr. Bush willy-nilly gives this all up because someone told the truth about his Niger Nuclear Weapons and Saddam claims! This is National Security?
In his July 14, 2003 column, Novak wrote that the choice to use Wilson “was made routinely at a low level without CIA Director George Tenet’s knowledge.” Novak went on to identify Plame as Wilson’s wife: “Wilson never worked for the CIA, but his wife, Valerie Plame, is an Agency operative on weapons of mass destruction. Two senior administration officials told me Wilson’s wife suggested sending him to Niger to investigate the Italian report”.
The following day on CNN, Novak announced that Plame’s nominal employer was Brewster Jennings & Associates. “There is no such firm, I’m convinced,” Novak said, noting that “Ms. Valerie E. Wilson” had donated $1,000 to the Gore campaign in 1999 and had listed Brewster Jennings & Associates as her employer. “CIA people are not supposed to list themselves with fictitious firms if they’re under a deep cover — they’re supposed to be real firms, or so I’m told. (It later turned out that BJ&A did exist for all intents and purposes, listed on the Dun & Bradstreet database of company names.) {Source}
This is how Mr. Bush, Mr. Cheney and Mr. Rove have always operated. Lie and distort and sell fear about the person who has dared shine a light on Mr. Bush and get the story to be all about the smallest defect in their story or lives and keep the focus off the truth about Mr. Bush. If there is nothing to be found, make it up. LIE! It has always worked for Mr. Bush. And you can always fall back on the line that ‘They are just playing dirty politics’! Yeah, like you aren’t? You are in the political game. What did you expect?
On top of this traitorous action, for political gain, Mr. Bush kept telling us that he would not condone someone leaking classified information, knowing that he was the one who had authorized this.
“There’s just too many leaks, and if there is a leak out of my administration, I want to know who it is.” {Bush, 9/30/03}
“I want to know the truth. … I have no idea whether we’ll find out who the leaker is, partially because, in all due respect to your profession, you do a very good job of protecting the leakers.” {Bush, 10/8/03}
“I’d like to know if somebody in my White House did leak sensitive information.” {Bush, 10/28/03}
He allowed a special prosecutor to investigate and have a grand jury sit determining if there was a crime committed, and by whom. This has cost us how much money?
Why did not Mr. Bush come forward, in all the times he talked about this and was questioned about this, and say, ‘I declassified this and authorized this information to be released. It was my judgment that this was the right thing to do and I have the power to do this’. A couple of bad news report days, at the most. Or they could have just raised the terrorist alert for a couple of days and the story would have disappeared.
Instead, he kept telling us that he would get to the bottom of this. That they were doing everything possible to find who had leaked this information. He lied! Again and again, he lied to us on this subject.
An angry President Bush rebuked chief political guru Karl Rove two years ago for his role in the Valerie Plame affair, sources told the Daily News. ‘He made his displeasure known to Karl,’ a presidential counselor told The News. ‘He made his life miserable about this.’” {NY Daily News, 10/19/05}
Is it because they had, ten days before they authorized the declassification of this information, already released this information? Not for the public interest, but to sell their war. But then, many of these other atrocious actions would not have come out. So here is one time, we should be thankful that Mr. Bush lies!
What liars seem to always forget: Lies will tell. Most lies always come out. And you must remember all the lies that you told and have other lies to cover up the first lie, if the truth comes out on the first lie.
Mr. Bush should have studied History, Philosophy, Great Literature and the Bible; then he might have heeded Sir Walter Scott’s truthful words: “What a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive”!
