This Is Great News!
More American’s consider themselves Democrats. It is a small number increase. But it is a start. It shows promise for the future.
Between those Americans who consider themselves Democrats (33%) and those who consider themselves Independent (34%), together that is 67% of Americans who are not Republican. Only 33% of Americans are Republicans. Majority? I think not! Moral Majority? After the disasters of this Republican Administration, I see no morals either. I am betting that most Independents will not vote for a Republican in the November Mid-term elections.
NEW YORK In a (perhaps) historic shift, more Americans now consider themselves Democrats than Republicans, the Gallup organization revealed today.
Republicans had gained the upper hand in recent years, but 33% of Americans, in the latest Gallup poll, now call themselves Democrats, with those favoring the GOP one point behind. But Gallup says this widens a bit more “once the leanings of Independents are taken into account.”
Independents now make up 34% of the population. When asked if they lean in a certain direction, their answers pushed the Democrat numbers to 49% with Republicans at 42%. One year ago, the parties were dead even at 46% each.
This shift indicates, Gallup says, why its polls show Democrats leading in this year’s congressional races.
The latest poll was taken from January to March 2006, with a national sample of about 1,000 adults.{Source}
If things continue as they have for the last five years, more and more Republicans will have to take a long, hard look at their party. Many will decide that they just can not stay in a party which has turned from their core belief systems. They will either have to form a New Republican Party, or they will have to join one of the Independent Parties. Or they will have to form a completely new Party. Lastly, they may join the Democratic Party. Either way, our country will win. When the Neo-Con Republican Party becomes less than 25% of the voters, we will be able to ignore their bad policies, their bad social issues and their ruining the social safety nets which all great societies have.
A great democracy must be progressive or it will soon cease to be a great democracy.
~Theodore Roosevelt~
We will have a Government which is for the people, by the people and of the people. Not Government for the Corporations, by the Corporations and of the Corporations. We will go back to the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the Amendments. We will again, have equal power between all branches of Government.We will become, once again, the country which the whole world aspires to become more like. We will have brought Democracy, not only to the world, but to us.
The best thing is, we will have political parties which work to bring truth, justice and the American way to America. Yes, maybe even the Republican Party will once again be a political party worthy of it’s history.
