Republicans Cry Foul!

As The BRAD BLOG reported last week , a Conservative Republican former Texas Supreme Court Justice had been considering an Election Contest after electronic voting machine problems and inexplicable tallies plagued the first-in-the-nation March 7th primary in the Lone Star State.

Steve Smith, who ran for election to the state Supreme Court, Placed second, in the Republican primary against an opponent backed by both Texas Republican Governor Rick Perry and the Bush family. He will be filing an official Election Contest this afternoon in Travis County District Court

Winkler County, which went for Smith by margins of 260 to 92 (74%) in the 2002 election and in the 2004 elections by margins of 468 to 249 (65%). This month Winkler County went against Smith by an unbelievable 0 (zero) to 273 (100%) margin. Governor Perry received only 83% of the vote in Winkler County, and no other contested candidate topped 80%. The propositions on the ballot topped out at 93%.

By these numbers, even Mr. Smith and Mrs. Smith didn’t vote for him. If his parents and siblings lived in the same county as he does, they didn’t vote for him either. Unlikely!

Seems that the demand of the Democrats, that all votes count, may finally come true, only because a Republican has been harmed.

The Brad Blog will keep us informed on this contest in Texas. Stay tuned.

It’s not the voting that’s democracy, it’s the counting.
~Tom Stoppard~ (1937 - ) Jumpers (1972) act 1

Those who cast the votes decide nothing. Those who count the votes decide everything.

~Joseph Stalin~

Anyone concerned about the Black Box Voting machines, which do not have a paper trail, should vote only by absentee ballot. That’s the only way to have a paper trail right now. To make sure your vote will count. This was sent out by the Republicans in Florida in 2004, to their fellow Republicans.

The Republican owned companies which have sold these to the states, have the ability to have a paper trail, most of these machines are already used for ATM transactions. You can print a receipt with those, not only with the transaction which just took place, but with your remaining balance. There is no reason that we don’t have a paper trail on our voting machines.

Another good report on this can be found Here. California is having big problems with the black boxes.

Hand counts are the only way to go. Yes, there will always be some criminal elements, those who are against true Democracy, those who only care which side wins, who will do a little damage, but not nearly as much as a good hacker can do, or a Republican company. After all, our neighbor to the north, Canada, hand counts their votes. Why should Canada have fairer elections than us?
