Supreme Court Justices Still Main Reason

Different Times, But Same Reason.

We have seen what kind of man Mr. Bush installs on the Supreme Court. We can not afford another one like these two.

It’s bad enough with some of the old Justices that some other Republican President installed. Justice Scalia seems to be either losing his mind or someone needs to tell him that the public doesn’t yet know that the Constitution is dead. In his latest spewing out of illogic, he has gone too far.

On March 8, 2006, just a few weeks before the Supreme Court was scheduled to take up arguments on the status of Guantánamo detainees, Scalia was speaking at the University of Freiburg in Switzerland. As described by Newsweek, which broke the story, Scalia spoke dis-missively of the whole “idea that the detainees have rights under the U.S. Constitution or international conventions, adding he was ‘astounded’ at the ‘hypocritical’ reaction in Europe to Gitmo.” The Newsweek report continues:

“War is war, and it has never been the case that when you captured a combatant you have to give them a jury trial in your civil courts,” he says on a tape of the talk reviewed by NEWSWEEK. “Give me a break.” Challenged by one audience member about whether the Gitmo detainees don’t have protections under the Geneva or human-rights conventions, Scalia shot back: “If he was captured by my army on a battlefield, that is where he belongs. I had a son on that battlefield and they were shooting at my son and I’m not about to give this man who was captured in a war a full jury trial. I mean it’s crazy.”{Read}

We can not hope that all of these Justices will remain on the court for the next three years. If one of them dies, retires or is removed because he is crazy, Mr. Bush will have the opportunity to install another lame excuse for a Justice. The court will be fixed in this Conservative mode for our lives, and our children’s lifetime.

But maybe, just maybe if we do everything we can do to elect Democrats in greater numbers to the Congress and the Senate, we can stop this madness. That means we must give money ‘until it hurts, write letters, talk to people, lawn signs, bumper stickers, write Letters to the Editors. Call every lie they tell, a lie! Make the poll numbers so big for the Democrats, that no one can steal even one county in one State.

It is still all about the Supreme Court. Our country depends on good, honest and Patriotic Justice sitting on it. Those willing to defend the Constitution, against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

Yes, we tried to tell you! Looking back, I and others had it right!

SUPREME COURT JUSTICES ARE THE MAIN REASON TO VOTE FOR KERRY!

written summer of 2004

In the last Presidential election cycle, four or five of the Justices said they would retire in the next 4 years, if a Republican won the Presidential election, to appoint their replacement. They made sure that this would happen. I expected that they would quickly leave and Bush would appoint the most extreme Judges to The Supreme Court.

Not only have none quit, none have even talked about it openly. Did they have “buyers regret”? I have noticed that only one Justice shows up for Bush’s State of the Union addresses. Has this ever happened before? I remember all of them sitting there in the front, in their special place of honor, for previous President’s State of the Union addresses. Is this another sign of their disapproval?

We can not hope that they can all hold on for another 4 years of Bush’s
second term, (wonder if he would try for a third, stating that
since he really didn’t win the first time, he is entitled to another
term…oops, the mind is getting weird thoughts)

.

The Justices are getting old, and even if they don’t retire, they may well die or become disabled, unable to perform their duties.

William H. Rehnquist, born: October 1, 1924…79 years old. (2005 Dead).
John Paul Stevens, born: April 20, 1920…84 years old.
Antonin Scalia, born: March 11, 1936…68 years old.
Sandra Day O’Connor, born: March 26, 1930…74 years old. (2006 Retired)
Anthony M. Kennedy, born: July 23, 1936…67 years old.
David Hackett Souter, born: September 17, 1939…64 years old.
Clarence Thomas, born: June 23, 1948…55 years old.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg, born: March 15, 1933…71 years old.
Stephen G. Breyer, born: August 15, 1938…65 years old.

Remember, several of the “Religious leaders” have prayer circles praying for the deaths of those who don’t decide the way the Religious Right think they should. If Bush wins this election, he will appoint a Chief Justice and probably three or four others. These Justices will be deciding cases for the next twenty-five to forty years. Can you imagine what kind of judges he will appoint?

The Democrats have done their best to stop his most extreme appointments to the lower courts, and taken much heat because of it. This will be a long, dirty fight if we don’t elect someone other than Bush and give the new President a Congress that will work with him, for the good of the country’s future. And don’t forget to vote for the best people to be Governors!

We must do our best to make sure ABB (Anyone But Bush) happens!

All thinking American’s across this nation, unite to re-defeat Bush! Our Country and the world can not survive another four years of this Cabal!
